RSPCA Freedom Food

Freedom Food is the RSPCA’s farm animal welfare assurance and food labelling scheme. Its aim is to bring about beneficial change in the way in which livestock is reared for food. We have worked for the scheme for nearly sixteen years and our remit covers consumer and trade media relations, trade marketing support, membership communications, event development and management and much more.

Highlights have included the devising and running of the charity’s annual Farm Animal Week with different creatively themed activities and press angles developed every year. One regular feature is the compiling of a Celebrity Recipe Collection – bringing in support from top chefs such as Jamie Oliver, Gary Rhodes and Antony Worrall Thompson to mention but a few. Another ongoing project is ‘Simply Ask’ – aimed jointly at the foodservice sector and the consumer and ultimately designed to encourage the uptake of higher welfare food in pubs, cafes and restaurants nationwide.

We also provide year round press office back up and broad marketing communications support to the team, with whom we have a seamless working relationship. Our remit also includes strategic communications advice and crisis and issues management. We are currently working on encouraging the uptake of Freedom Food labelled products by caterers who have won contracts to supply the 2012 Olympics – in conjunction with Sustain.

Work for this client brings us into contact with a very wide range of consumer and trade media at a national and regional level, with the grocery multiples, with MPs and other opinion formers and with celebrity chefs.
